Everything changes if a dog survives distemper, and only time can predict the quality of life he will have in the future.
Distemper is a highly contagious viral disease of domestic dogs and other animals. It is incurable, often fatal, and multisystemic (affecting multiple organs), affecting the respiratory, gastrointestinal, central nervous, brain, and immune systems.
Last February, Dakota's residency became part of LGCR's Roadside Rescue Program. At some point in his young life, he contracted distemper, was abandoned in a rural area, and was likely shot while foraging for food.
A distemper survivor, Dakota is developmentally 'different,' experiencing the world with a sense of wonder; however, he lacks awareness of having a body and a host of nutrient absorption issues. LGCR's promise to Dakota is to provide a protected life filled with joyful activities and the medical care that a compromised life deserves.
As a Sanctuary Sweetheart Sponsor, your monthly donations help Dakota receive crucial medical treatment, physical rehabilitation, and cognitive support. A little goes a long way in providing Dakota with hope, health, and happiness.
