Answering Howls for Help- February/2020

I, Living Grace Canine Ranch, take you, Texas, unwanted & orphaned old dogs.

To have and hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish, till deaths do us part. In the presence of God and supporters, I make this vow.

Rhonda's 'napkin blueprint' in action

Many people will remember 2020 as the year of COVID-19, a global pandemic that ravaged the world and shook the foundation of all we considered to be safe. In addition, Texas will remember it as the year that one woman of modest means and humble heart declared 'no more' to undignified treatment of aging dogs.

Rhonda Minardi, LGCR's Founder & Executive Director presented her vision of a residental living space on a table napkin (which is displayed today) to six board members and said "We are the voice to answer old dogs' howls for help into the night."

Rhonda's had a bold, ambitious vision that viewed the pandemic's curtail of traditional fundraising to be nothing more than a challenge to be overcome.

On December 12th, 2020, LGCR opened it's doors to welcome home residents. By January 20th- every apartment was howling with happiness.

Knowing that nearly 60% of senior dogs entering rural animal shelters will not survive the experience, the need for a viable alternative could not be more urgent.

Today, LGCR is raisng funds to expand residential capacity for over 100 seniors by adding two additional Residential Bunkhouses by 2022.

"Living Grace is not a place for old dogs to die. They come to live, to thrive and enjoy life, even if it is only for a short-time." ~Rhonda Minardi, Founder

Mission Impact

  • Saving Seniors From Entering Shelters. Before LGCR, rural families needing to surrender an aging pet due to common situations such as dog's health expenses, aging dog behavioral issues or a pet parent's death, had basically one option, the local animal shelter. Today, 70% of our residents are rehomed directly to the ranch.

  • Serving Seniors Wellness; Medical, Physical & Emotional Needs. From the moment a resident checks-in, their world is experienced with love and safety. Immediately, every resident receives a full spectrum Senior Wellness Exam. Diagnostics are the basis for planning resident individualized care profiles. At LGCR, prevention of life-limiting conditions (i.e. diabetes) is critical to living a quality life.
