I'll Be Home for Christmas
A wishful sentiment can come true. Since 2020, Living Grace Canine Ranch has been a beacon of hope, health, and joy-filled memories for hundreds of adoption-disadvantaged senior dogs. It's a place where these dogs receive the gift of human Love, and their last moments are filled with joy and contentment.
Recently, Gidget celebrated her eighth birthday despite her owner's desire for veterinarian-assisted euthanasia because she didn't get along with a new puppy. We welcomed Gidget home, but we quickly realized the owner wasn't forthcoming and hesitant to explain over one hundred infected dog bites. Gidget is a gentle soul, and we anticipate sharing many more Christmas mornings with her.
Missy's story is the opposite of our abandoned and abused residents; her fifteen-year life journey only knew mom's Love. Yet, the mom is of advanced age and had diminishing capabilities required for pet caregiving. By entrusting her little girl to LGCR, the mom experienced a profound peace of mind with our regular, reassuring updates.
Tucker's precious senior face is the one most often seen at shelters. Physically challenged as blind, deaf, and age-related but treatable skin allergies, it's usually too high of a barrier for potential adopters. Seniors wait in kennels, hoping for a family, but they do not come. Due to shelter overcrowding, euthanasia claims sixty-four percent of viable senior dog companionship.
Over the past year, we have seen a surge of helpless and arthritically painful Griswald faces alongside rural country roadsides. Shelters turning away surrenders and animal control walking away due to budget cuts leave the most vulnerable to endure an end of life experiencing pain, suffering, and fear.
Though residents’ stories differ, they share a powerful commonality: an unwavering desire to live. Located in Bertram, Texas, Living Grace Canine Ranch lights the night sky as a beacon of hope, health, and an end-of-life journey home for senior dogs with medical, mobility, and emotional challenges. Their resilience and will to live is truly inspiring.
